Feed Bags: Love ‘Em or Hate ‘Em?
Posted by Brian at 01:06 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008
We’re getting ready to order name tag materials and we wanted to know what people think about the “feed bag” style name tag holder we’ve been using over the last few years. Some people like them, some people don’t. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, it’s the pouch that goes around your neck and usually has a zipped compartment in the back. So, what do you all think? Leave a message below in the comments and make your mark on convention this year. See ya!

I know what you’re saying (Though I’ve never worn one), and I think it’s better than any alternatives. (Pointy ones from grade school, anyone?)

Ya, I think they’d be the best possible.

I’ve never found the pouch part to be useful, but I agree with the people above in that they seem to be the ideal option. Aside from the poking problems mentioned above, the usual style also has the advantage of being durable enough that it actually can survive a week in the hands of JCLers.
Besides, they’re an epic part of the JCL experience. Convention without them would just be incomplete.
I do, however, rue my inability to find uses for it after Convention, because I can’t bring myself to throw it out (it would seem so wasteful).

I think that the pouch style is very useful, especially for middle schoolers like me who have keys, money, etc., to carry around and hopefully not lose track of during the week.

Thanks for the input so far. Just so you all know, the alternative name tag would be a simple lanyard that goes around your neck- no need to worry about getting poked by sharp pointy things

Personally, I prefer the lanyard with the pouch.
I like to put my camera/iPod/phone/trinkets in there rather than in a pant/jean/short pocket because you are less likely to be pick-pocketed with the zipper pouch. Also, more liable to damage to personal items and the name tag without the pocket. Pocket is worth the investment. Of all the conventions and conferences to which I’ve travelled, the least troublesome and the least amount of fumbling I’ve had to do were always those with a pouched lanyard/name tag.

I also would prefer the “feed bag” style of name tags w/ the pouch. These types of name tags are very useful during convention for carrying money, your phone, or other personal items worth carrying around your neck.
