Happy New Year!

Posted by Steve at 07:21 pm on Monday, January 7, 2008

So it’s been a couple of months since our last entry, but don’t fret. We’ve been working behind the scenes to put together some more details about this summer’s Convention and help the JCL office prep the registration materials. In the meantime, Brian and I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year. As always, we can’t wait to see you in July!

In the meantime, if you have any questions about this summer’s Convention, please leave them in the comments and we’ll be happy to respond as best we can.

do you have the tentative schedule for arrival/departure days?  We’re trying to determine if the program ends AM on 8/2 or evening to make appropriate travel plans.  Thanks!

There are no events on 8/2; the only two items on the agenda are breakfast from 7-9 am and checkout from 7-12 am.

As for arrivals, there will again be early registration and housing on the evening of July 27—most likely after 5 or 6 pm. Registrations on July 28 start at 8 am, and the first general assembly is scheduled for 1:15 pm.

Incidentally, for those who are arriving early on the 27th, we have tentatively arranged with Miami to have the Shriver Center Food Court available for cash purchases for dinner that evening.

Unfortunately, once you are checked in at Convention, you are required to stay on campus. However, if you would like to plan to eat off campus before checking in that night, Uptown Oxford has a number of sandwich shops and restaurants, including the ever-popular Bagel and Deli, the delicious (if pricey) Kona Bistro, and the gyro-riffic Skipper’s Pub. Uptown also has a number of inexpensive chains like Subway, Great Steak and Potato company, Pita Pit, and a Skyline Chili parlor.

In addition, if you are coming from the Cincinnati area, you could also stop off at any number of chain restaurants in the Northgate area, just south of where I-275 and US 27 intersect, including Olive Garden, Panera, Friday’s, etc. Since it’s the site of one of the regional malls, it may be easier to get students in and out quickly.

That said, I feel that no visit to Oxford is complete without sampling one of the local restaurants over any of the chains.

As always, the booklets will come with the registration packets. I believe packet request forms start getting processed in mid-March.

As for when Mr. O’Neil will have the PDF of the booklet posted to njcl.org, I’m not sure. I know that Mrs. Dutra is currently finalizing the booklet—she just asked me for some final details late last week—but I don’t know when that will be finalized.

Sorry I’m not much help on that detail; the JCL office really handles the administrative parts of Convention.
