Semi-Live Blogging the Fall Planning Meeting

Here we are in lovely Uptown Oxford, Ohio, getting ready for a day of tours, agenda discussions, and other items of planning goodness. As time warrants, we’ll be posting items of interest about our tours.
We actually were in town yesterday with such NJCL luminaries as President Grace Jeong, Secretary Emily Calder, national committee chair Martha Altieri, creative contest chair Amy Elifrits, and the incomparable Geri Dutra, doing an initial campus tour, an extensive walkthrough of the agenda. The day was very informative and our discussions very productive. But now, we’re off to breakfast…
Update, 2:15pm: in the throes of going through the program. Nothing earth shattering so far but some things are being reserved for discussion after the meeting, including world series of certamen, a publicity shot for local news on the first day, etc.
Update, 2:55: we’re discussing the intricacies of dining halls and assignments. Because of the capacity of this campus, we will need to use three dining halls, and delegates will be assigned to a dining hall.
Update, 3:10pm: Carolyn Troha, NSCL Vice President is telling me about her technology issues. And Tyler Cunnion, NSCL President, is trying to hack this site. Good luck, hair boy!
Update, 3:15pm: Coffee is my friend.
Update, 3:20pm: We did a whole lot of touring this morning, which is why we had the gap between the first entry and now.
Update, 3:45pm: Kevin Fu is two seats over from me. Kevin Fu is as impressive in person as he is on the silver screen.
Update, 3:50pm: estimating number of people going to a banquet is an inexact science. we’re trying to figure out the number of people who will attend the NSCL banquet, but because of the flex that happens with “slashers”, we have problems with getting reliable estimates to the conference people.
Update, 4:25pm; Day in Old Rome could be kinda fun. We’re planning to include photos as part of the procession, and giving more of a purpose to the procession itself.
Update, 4:35pm: talking about Homecoming concept beginning this year; would invite past JCL members back for one day to experience Convention again. Would happen over Day in Old Rome.
Update, 5:00pm: in a break. Most of the agenda work has been done...trash talked Tyler…
Finished, 5:25. Will make changes to the agenda tonight and finalize with the committee tomorrow morning. All in all, it was a productive day; we think the committee and officers found pretty much everything they needed to know about the campus, and we’ve found facilities for just about every event. In the coming days, we’ll highlight some of the facilities that will make this convention unique and give you an idea of living arrangements.
