So are YOU coming to Convention this year?
Posted by Steve at 08:30 am on Thursday, April 3, 2008
So since it's been a month since my last post and since, as Convention Chair, I am naturally curious as to how well this Convention will be attended, I am throwing a couple of questions out there for anyone to answer in the comments:
- Are you coming to Convention this year?
- Have you ordered your Convention Packet yet?
- If you are not sure that you will be able to make it, what is the biggest issue standing in your way?
- How much Fu is too much Fu?
As you all know, the OJCL, my co-chair Brian Compton and I are really excited to welcome all of you to Oxford this summer. We think that Miami is a fantastic campus and the conference folks are really working hard to make this a special week for NJCL. We hope that you are also excited about attending!
See you in the comments -- and then at Miami!

To the Illustrious Mr. Gentle:
1) I am going to NJCL 08.
2) I have indeed ordered my packet. In fact- it’s already arrived.
3) Not applicable.
4) Dude, it’s not possible to have too much Fu.

Indeed. It is not possible to have too much Fu.
But now you have given away the answer to my trick question.

Hey I’m Brad Hopper, a student of Brian Compton and a diehard member of the JCL… I’m so going to 2008 convention, I haven’t ordered my packet yet (ouch) but I will soon, the only thing that would stop me is I don’t get my packet, and global warming is caused by a lack of Fu!!!

1. Yes, I am coming to NJCL08. (Acronyms… YAY!)
2. My packet has arrived, and my new favorite hobby is reading the instruction booklet. Where can we direct questions to, also?
3. Nothing stands in my way! Actually, I’ll be there the week before for Ohio LSC State Meet. (Swimming-I’m sooo excited about owning in the Olympika!)
4. “Fu”? In the case that climate change is affecting “fu”, then it must be something really nice that George Bush and the Chinese factory owners are working to destroy…
This place needs more people… Off to the E-Mail!

I really really really want to attend this year...as I have never attended before. No one else from my school has ever gone, so naturally, my sponsor is very excited. But I have a question. When is the packet due? And what do I do if my computer is ancient and won’t let me bring up what I need so I can GET said form to get what I need?

The packet is due June 1. If you can’t download the request form, you can call 513-529-7741, and the NJCL office will be happy to fax one to you or send you a form via US mail.

I can’t come to NJCL08.
It makes me sad. I love JCL, and I can’t believe that for the second time in a row I’m going to fail to go again. I’m going to miss the guys from MOJCL lots until next year.
I don’t have a packet…
I have a) No money. b) no “right” (I will next year though, I’m more worried about settling emancipation before going to Convention, but I’ll be there next year, I promise.) and c) I really want to go but I cannn’t T___T
Erm.... -hides and avoids the last question-

1. If I didn’t show up this year, I have a feeling you’d send someone to get me.
2. Yes and I’ve filled it out and sent it back in (as has my co-hort).
3. Well, Sock Puppet has diva-like tendencies, as you know. Pleasing his is a rather large issue.
4. Well, if there’s too much I think you can get prescription cream for it.

At 05:52 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2008 , Jessi (of MOJCL) had this to say:
1. I am reading my packet right now…
2. and half of it is alreadt filled out.
3. Travel cost almost kept me from attending though.
4. Too much Fu? Who knew?
Also… To Krystal: What delegation are you? If you are sad about missing MOJCL boys whom you met at either the Bloomington or Columbia conventions I can tell you that none of the boys from the Columbia trip are attending and only two from Bloomington are attending. If you miss them so much… FACEBOOK them! ‘MOJCL… of course that’s a word.’ Is our state group.

It has nothing to do with teh guys. It actually has a lot to do with the entire atmosphere. I am going next year, I already have facebooked everyon I could find....
^^
I love JCL… I love latin too (Even though currently my grade is a resounding flunk, but I swear I have reasons for this beyond I’m thickheaded).
And I meant the guys as ‘people’ not… Male. >>
I can’t exclude the wonderful ladies of whom I adore, can I? ^^ (Monica, I know she’d gutt me if I forgot/excluded her. >>}
Believe me, I didn’t realize it until I went this year but JCL is really good for me- competition in something I am pretty good at (Even for latin II, beginning III) and the fact that everyone’s so energized- Latin can’t be dead. It’s like a solar cell for everyone in JCL. I mean we paint ourselves head to toe, we dance like crazy people and we yell for no apparent reason- It jus tnever stops. This year’s MOJCL gave me the energy and push to actually start in on the documents and reading and prerequisites required for emancipation next year^^ I’m going to want you guys for the same power next summer when I’m getting over the rocky start I’m anticipating (Unfortunately).
I won’t be a member of a school that teaches latin but I will be trying to keep up by going over Latin with a friend of mine who is in Latin IV now as well as self studies- Clizer already said if I got things working she’d sponser me…

I am attending the convention this year, a level I, and have a few questions…
1. Are rooming requests still open?
2. How can I be super-spirited with the given themes? On the “JCL, it’out of this world” day do you want me to dress as a romanized alien or something?
3. Can we use our bedsheets or should we bring a toga from home?
4. What on earth is a “fu” and how is it that you can’t have too much of it?
Comments
At 10:38 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 , Steve had this to say:
1. Nope.
2. Your state will probably be organizing this, so I’d check with them. But you’ve got the idea.
3. Bring your toga from home. University bedsheets are for sleeping.
4. You’ll find out!

Noes! I must know what fu is! I don’t like the winking smiley-- it brings bad juju!
Okay… all joking aside, thanks. My teacher *ahem* had little information for me because Mama G is in Europe, and she’s supposedly the gold mine of everlasting knowledge.
As a Level I, I have no choice but to believe him.
Now I would very much love your opinion. I am a cellist of four years and a fairly good one if I say so myself. I would very much like to bring it for That’s Entertainment, but am waffling about the idea. Do you, personally, believe that I should?

The cello is a decision you will need to make on your own. Since I’ve helped with selecting acts for the last few years, it wouldn’t be right for me to say one way or another about any chance. I can only give you the extremely nonspecific advice that if you think you might be able to make the cut, and it’s not a problem to transport it, you might as well give it a shot.
(And FWIW, due to my duties this year, I will not be able to help with act selection this year.)
